    Choosing a campsite in Ireland

August 15, 2018 Author: Alda Finnegan., Holidays Comment off

It can be hard choosing the right campsite for your holiday in Ireland. If you’re having a romantic weekend away, you might not want kids running around everywhere. Or, if you are on a getaway with the kids, you might want to make sure there are enough activities around to entertain them.

What to look for when choosing a campsite…

If you’re on a trip away with children, try look for a campsite that has a good onsite playground to keep them amused. It’s a good idea to check that the play area will be within view from your caravan. You can keep an eye on the older kids without having to constantly stand beside the swings and slide!
If you have teenagers with you, check out the facilities available to them before choosing. It could be a stressful holiday with a teenager complaining that they’re bored with nothing to do! Most campsites have good recreational rooms. A game of table tennis or pool is a great way for teenagers to meet others their age.

Don’t forget about some entertainment for the adults! Some campsites offer live music at night which can be a good way to meet other campers, or to just enjoy it yourselves while you sit back and relax.

When you arrive at the campsite…

There are pros and cons to being near the bathroom/washing facilities. It can be good to be close to them if there are a few of you in the caravan and you’re using campsite showers. You might want a short walk if you’re going back and forth. The downside to being near them is the traffic you may constantly get walking past your caravan. People heading to the bathroom in the early hours of the night might wake you.

When you arrive at the campsite look for a spot with level ground and avoid areas that are crowded by trees. Although they might seem great for extra privacy, trees will continue to drip water long after it has rained and this can make for soggy ground and mucky shoes.

Make sure before deciding on a campsite that you look at the reviews for it. When I say this I don’t mean you dismiss one because a few people have said it was awful. One persons idea of a bad campsite might be exactly the type you’re after. Use the reviews to search for words that will help you decide, like ‘pool table’ or ‘play area’. That way you can make sure that you are choosing a campsite that has all the facilities you will need.
